Job summary

Universal Plant Services is seeking a Power Technical Advisor to support field operations, maintenance projects, turnarounds, and specialty services in the industrial and power sectors. You will act as the main technical liaison between customers, operations, and field personnel to ensure safe, efficient project execution.

The ideal candidate has strong industrial services experience in power generation or heavy industrial environments, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or related certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in industrial services, power generation, maintenance, outages, turnarounds, or related heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of industrial equipment, mechanical systems, and field service operations.
  • Experience supporting power plants, refineries, petrochemical facilities, or similar industrial sites preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work scopes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project‑related reporting systems.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and support field operations as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and field expertise for maintenance, turnaround, outage, and specialty service projects.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, operations teams, and field personnel.
  • Assist with project planning, execution strategies, manpower coordination, and scope development.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and customer meetings to identify project opportunities and operational needs.
  • Support estimating, proposal development, and job costing activities.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety standards, customer requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Troubleshoot operational and technical issues in the field and recommend effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Operations Managers and Account Managers to support customer satisfaction and business growth.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, and quality to ensure successful project execution.
  • Assist with developing work procedures, technical documentation, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support long‑term partnerships and repeat business.
  • Participate in post‑job reviews to identify lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities.

The Power Technical Advisor is responsible for supporting field operations, maintenance projects, turnarounds, and specialty services within the industrial and power sectors. Key Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance, technical direction, and support to field personnel, craft labor, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Assist Operations Managers with coordinating daily workforce activities and project execution.
  • Monitor employee performance, productivity, and adherence to company safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and technical training of field employees and junior team members.
  • Participate in workforce planning, manpower allocation, and scheduling to meet project demands and customer expectations.
  • Promote a positive team environment focused on safety, accountability, communication, and operational excellence.
  • Assist with conducting field audits, safety observations, and quality inspections to ensure compliance with company and customer standards.
  • Provide input regarding employee performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and development opportunities as needed.
  • Serve as a leadership resource during outages, turnarounds, and critical project activities to help ensure successful project execution.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a combination of office and field environments, including power plants, substations, and construction sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions such as heat, cold, noise, dust, and inclement weather when visiting job sites.
