Job summary

HDR Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Fall 2026 Power Systems Engineering Intern to join our team in the Sacramento, CA office.

You will support electrical engineering design projects in Power, gaining hands-on experience with generation and/or substation work under licensed engineers and technicians. As an intern, you will learn through mentoring, work on analyses to develop design options, and contribute to cost estimates, reports and drawings.

HDR Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Fall 2026 – Power Systems Engineering Intern to join our growing team in the Sacramento, CA office. The successful candidate would support electrical engineering design projects in Power within the disciplines of power generation and/or substation.

As a Power Systems Engineering Intern at HDR, you will work with a team of licensed engineers, engineers in training, and technicians on different project types and with diverse professionals. Our goal will be to engage you in all facets of our work so that you will gain a better understanding of how your coursework is applied in real‑world settings and inspire you to engage in a career in electrical engineering upon graduation.

In the role of Power Systems Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

Assist in conducting analyses to develop electrical design options or recommendations, and may assist in the preparation of cost estimates, reports and design plans and specifications.

Work on projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.

Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs.

Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures; utilize computer modeling software for electrical system analysis and design.

Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional, Project Manager, Electrical EIT and/or Technician.

Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA


• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry such as ETAP and SKM


• Internship is in-person only


• Local Candidates preferred

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program


• Possess strong problem‑solving and communication skills


• Basic Microsoft Office skills
