Job summary

Electric Power Engineers is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to conduct grid studies and analysis focused on planning, modeling, operation, and protection systems. You will perform detailed studies with PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, TSAT, and ETAP, including IBR modeling and technical reports, while ensuring compliance with NERC standards.

The role requires 1–3 years on power systems analysis with a BS in Electrical Engineering and a focus on power systems. Travel is minimal; Panama City, Panama location.

  • Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed.
  • Meet project deadlines within budget and produce high-quality outputs.
  • Manage data generation and maintenance for related studies.
  • Identify training needs and present to management.
  • Support client services and project deliverables.

Job description

Overview

We are designing the grid of the future! Conduct power system studies and analysis for meeting regulatory compliance requirements of existing and future NERC and regional reliability standards. This position will have specific emphasis placed on generating facilities’ planning, modeling, operation and protection system analysis.

Responsibilities

How you can make an impact:

  • Perform detailed bulk power system studies using various power system software such as PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, TSAT, ETAP, etc.
  • Conduct IBR modeling: steady state, short circuit, and dynamic in PSSE.
  • Conduct IBR operational capability analysis: voltage/frequency ride‑through assessment using PSCAD.
  • Perform assessments for compliance with NERC operation and planning reliability standards.
  • Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed.
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Process, generate and maintain data as required for other engineering related studies.
  • Identify training needs and present to the management as needed.
  • Perform other assigned duties in relation to client services and deliverables.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven knowledge of power systems.
  • Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks.
  • Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride.
  • Strong technical report‑writing skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s (and higher) degree in Electric Engineering with an emphasis in electric power systems.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience as a power systems engineer.
  • Experience performing power system impact studies such as Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability.
  • Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, TSAT.
  • Experience automating/programming in Python.
