Job description

We’re Fun to Be Around! FTBA is an electrical testing and maintenance company built on relationships. We help facility owners, managers, and executives keep their high-voltage electrical distribution systems running safely and at peak performance, so they can focus on their business instead of worrying about downtime, compliance, or aging equipment.

We believe great service starts with treating every client, and every teammate, as a person first, not a number. We bring that same philosophy to how we work together internally: we take our work seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We’re looking for people who want to bring energy, integrity, and a little fun to the job every day.

The Role

The Power Systems Engineer provides applied electrical engineering and technical expertise to FTBA's customers across power system studies, data analysis, problem-solving, and technical report writing. This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager.

  • Develop and model electrical power system one-line diagrams and designs for commercial and industrial facilities
  • Use power system analysis software (SKM Power Tools for Windows) for modeling and system analysis
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to enhance facility performance and reduce operational costs
System Operation & Maintenance
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting electrical issues

Project Support
  • Assist in project bid processes, construction, and commissioning
  • Help integrate power systems with other mechanical and automation systems
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Sales, Project Managers, Field Services) and directly with customers on power system projects
Other
  • Pursue and maintain EIT certification and relevant knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and Arc Flash standards
  • Perform other duties as directed by departmental leadership
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET)
  • 3+ years of experience in power system design, analysis, or operations
  • Experience with SKM and AutoCAD Light software
  • Working understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, and related safety standards
  • EIT (Engineering in Training) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with electrical distribution equipment from 34.5kV down to 120/208V, including switchgear, switchboards, protective relays, panelboards, motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and distribution cabinets
  • Skilled in engineering diagnostic and modeling software for system studies and design validation
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical data into clear, concise written reports and effective verbal presentations for audiences ranging from plant personnel to senior management
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, including maintenance, operations, and external vendors
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commercial buildings and light-industrial sites (pharmaceutical, automotive, chemical, wastewater treatment, hospitals, data centers, office buildings, and more)
  • Occasional exposure to high-noise, high-voltage, and other challenging field environments
  • Some travel may be required
Why FTBA
  • Work on varied, high-impact projects across commercial and industrial facilities
