Job summary

Excel Engineering, Inc. is a full-service electrical engineering consulting firm focused on power systems, automation, and electrical design.

We seek an engineer to perform arc flash analyses, power system modeling, and CAD drafting while adhering to NEC/NFPA70E standards and collaborating with clients on high-impact projects. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Power) from an ABET-accredited program, 3.0+ GPA, 5+ years in arc flash analysis, and proficiency in AutoCAD

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering (power) from an ABET accredited program.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Experience with SKM PowerTools or similar modeling software.
  • Experience with fault calculations, load flow, coordination, and arc flash hazards.
  • Understanding and use of NFPA70E.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software.
  • Strong computer skills and MS Office.
  • 5+ years of arc flash analysis experience with NFPA70E.
  • Willing to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Arc Flash Evaluation to determine incident energy and boundary per NEC 110.16, NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, OSHA 1910.269 Appendix E.
  • Review and recommend trip times for protective devices.
  • Determine protective clothing requirements based on study output.
  • Make recommendations to reduce fault clearing times or arc flash hazards.
  • Perform power system modeling and analysis, including field data collection.
  • Perform CAD drafting on projects.
  • Analyze load flow, short circuit, and TCC curves for system optimization.
  • Conduct electrical calculations and circuit/system analyses.
  • Develop NEC knowledge and use AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Easy Power.

Role Overview

The Engineer will be expected to use their knowledge of electrical systems and applicable standards to perform the following tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Perform Arc Flash Evaluation to determine the incident energy and arc flash boundary for each location in a power system using NEC 110.16, NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, and NESC (OSHA 1910.269 Appendix E) standards or requirements.
  • Review and recommend trip times for protective devices.
  • Determine and recommend protective clothing requirements based on study output.
  • Make recommendations to reduce fault clearing times or arc flash hazards based on system changes or other mitigation strategies.
  • Perform power system modeling and analysis, including gathering field data.
  • Perform CAD drafting on projects.
  • Determine and review Load flow, short circuit, and TCC curves for system optimization.
  • Perform electrical calculations and circuit/system analysis.
  • Becomes proficient in the understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as the following software: AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Easy Power.
Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering (power discipline) from an ABET Accredited Institution
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of SKM PowerTools software or other modeling software.
  • Experience with electrical fault calculations, load flow, coordination, and arc flash hazards.
  • Understanding and use of NFPA70E.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of AutoCAD software.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Five (5+) years of experience with Arc Flash Analysis and NFPA70E
  • Willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of arc flash hazards and OSHA standards.
  • Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain within one year highly preferred
  • Five years of hands‑on experience with residential, commercial, or industrial electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Has EIT or FE certifications
