Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to support the reliability, operation, and performance of critical electric transmission assets in a growing power infrastructure environment in Austin, TX.

You will lead maintenance and reliability programs, analyze system performance, support SCADA and grid operations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in power systems, transmission, substation, generation, or utility operations.
  • Working knowledge of power system analysis, protection systems, SCADA, and grid operations.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT operations and reliability standards is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to support critical operational events when required.
  • 4 weeks of PTO

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for high-voltage electrical equipment and associated systems.

  • Lead equipment failure investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and energization of new assets and system upgrades.
  • Review equipment specifications, testing documentation, and technical reports.
  • Perform asset health assessments and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical support during planned outages and restoration activities.
  • Support system operations during real-time events and abnormal system conditions.
  • Analyze system performance, operating parameters, relay activity, and alarms.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable grid reliability standards, operating procedures, and market protocols.
  • Support SCADA, monitoring, and control system performance improvements.
  • Review relay event data and coordinate investigations with technical stakeholders.
  • Support outage planning, operational readiness, and system studies.
