Join us as a Power System Study Engineer at DNV

We are seeking a dedicated Power System Study Engineer to join our Energy Systems group, focusing on renewable energy and power grids. This role involves conducting system impact studies, transmission planning, and supporting large load interconnections, with a strong emphasis on safety, innovation, and customer service.

Role Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical system impact studies, including steady state, dynamic, and transient stability analyses using PSS/E
  • Conduct short circuit studies in ASPEN
  • Execute voltage ride-through tests and model benchmarking
  • Engage in transmission planning and compliance assessments for bulk power systems
  • Prepare and review technical reports and presentations for clients
  • Develop automation scripts to improve simulation efficiency
  • Stay updated on NERC, ISO/RTO planning procedures, policies, and industry developments
  • Contribute to research and development activities for new analytical techniques
  • Build and maintain customer relationships, providing technical advisory support
Location and Work Schedule

This position is based at our offices in Dallas, TX; Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Oak Brook, IL; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Medford, MA; or San Diego, CA, with a hybrid work schedule typically involving three days in-office or at the client site. Other US locations may also be considered.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electric power systems
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in transmission planning, generation, or large load interconnection analyses
  • Hands-on experience with power system tools like PSS/E
  • Strong understanding of electric power systems and renewable energy
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment
Preferred
  • Knowledge of ERCOT market practices
  • Experience with ASPEN, TARA, or similar software
  • Active PE license
  • Graduate degree in Electric Power Systems
  • Familiarity with automation scripting in Python
  • Knowledge of other electricity markets such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE
Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary ranges from $83,000 to $135,000, depending on location and experience. We offer comprehensive benefits including paid time off, health plans, retirement plans, education reimbursement, flexible work arrangements, and more.
