Job summary

Shield AI is seeking an early-career Test Engineer to support the testing of X-BAT battery energy storage, electric motors, and motor-drive systems at our Seattle, WA site. You will set up, operate, and refine test systems, document results, and work closely with the Power Systems team.

You will gain hands-on experience with dynamometers, battery test rigs, and instruments, while developing foundational skills in electro-mechanical test campaigns, safety practices, and cross-functional

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in electrical, mechanical technology or related field.
• Hands-on experience with batteries, dynamometers, motors, powertrain systems or similar equipment.
• Experience setting up hardware tests with instrumentation and data acquisition.
• Ability to read schematics and test procedures; strong safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate dynamometer systems for motor and motor-drive testing.
• Configure battery energy storage test setups and instrumentation.
• Execute test campaigns and verify performance, voltage rails, and thermal behavior.
• Collect, evaluate and communicate test data; troubleshoot system issues.
• Assist with lab buildout and environmental qualification testing.

We are growing the Avionics Engineering team to support the development of the X-BAT aircraft. Our team is designing a flight-critical, custom avionics system supporting communications, compute, AI, power,telemetryand other essentialaircraftsystems.

Shield AI is seeking an early-career Test Engineer to support the tes spacing and verification of X-BAT’s battery energy storage,electricmotorsand high-voltage motor-drive systems. This position will be primarily responsible for setting up, operating, and refining battery storage and/ordynamometer-based test systems used to characterize energy storage, electric machineand motor-drive performance.

The role sits at the intersection of electrical, mechanical and test engineeringanengineer with strong, directly relevant dynamometer experience. You will partner closely with the Power Systems team and other cross-functional engineering groups throughout design, verification,integrationand qualification.

This position is based in Seattle, WA.

• Set up and operatedynamometer systems for electric motor and motor-drive testing
• Setup andoperatebattery energy storage systems for testing
• Configure instrumentation, sensors, fixtures,harnessesand data-acquisition equipment
• Execute test campaigns forelectromechanicalor electrochemicalsubsystems, verifying voltage rails,logic levels,performance, thermalbehaviorandoverallfunctionality
• Perform testing, debugging and system-level troubleshooting
• Collect and evaluate test data,identifyabnormalbehaviorand communicate findings
• Support environmental qualification testing, including temperature, vibration,altitudeand humidity
• Install, verify, and deployDC-sources,power converters, testfixturesand harnesses
• Assistwith the design and buildout of thebatteryand/ormotor-test labs

• Associate degree or higher in electrical technology, mechanical technology, mechatronicsengineering, electrical engineering, mechanicalengineeringor a related technical discipline
• Hands‑on experience withbatteries,dynamometers, electric motors, motor drives, powertrain systems, or comparable electromechanical equipment through employment, internships, academic teams,clubsor personal projects
• Experience setting up and executing hardware tests using instrumentation,sensorsand data-acquisition equipment
• Experience troubleshooting systems involving electrical and mechanical components
• Familiarity with benchtop electrical equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, powersuppliesand electronic loads
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanicaldrawingsand test procedures
• Understanding of laboratory safety practices, including the safe operation of high-voltage or high-power equipment
• Demonstrated ownership, reliable execution, clear documentation, and effective collaboration with engineers,techniciansand cross-functional partners
