Job Description

Now looking to build our Power Scholars team for the Summer of 2025! We are seeking a motivated director candidate eager to make an impact this summer.

Under the supervision of the Power Scholars Program Director, the Assistant Director will support the administration and daily operation of all Enrichment and Academic Achievement Gap summer programming. They will work as part of a staff team to encourage SEL enrichment and plan and execute family events. The Assistant Director will represent the Old Colony Y professionally, providing friendly, convenient, and courteous service. They will uphold the employee code of conduct and ensure all responsibilities align with the mission of the Old Colony Y and regulatory agencies. The role includes creating and instructing high-quality summer programming for children, ensuring a safe, healthy, and constructive environment for all participants. The Assistant Director will embody and promote the character traits of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, along with the Developmental Assets values of the Old Colony Y.

Program/Department Responsibilities
  • Take a lead administrative role in all components of Old Colony Y’s Power Scholars program.
  • Refer youth and assist families in accessing additional wraparound resources of OCY and the community.
  • Serve as a liaison between families/youth and partner agencies, ensuring effective communication.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding youth, families, contacts, and files.
  • If the Director is unavailable, supervise staff including Enrichment Leaders and Senior Enrichment staff as needed during summer programming.
  • Assist in recruiting, developing, and training Enrichment Instructors, adhering to positive youth development, trauma-informed care, and child safety guidelines.
  • Support the director in scheduling staff and filling gaps with substitutes as needed.
Requirements

Education/Experience/Physical requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, or related field.
  • 5-7 years’ experience working with children and families, program development, and community organizing.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk stairs, and bend during the workday.
  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Must be insured and licensed to drive, capable of traveling for home visits, transportation, and meetings, and able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
