Job summary

Position Overview

This position requires strong technical, managerial, and financial skills and leadership ability. It demands a goal‑oriented individual who takes charge of initiatives, understands client needs, meets schedules, concentrates on intense periods when required, and possesses average strength and stamina for an office environment with some travel.

Technology/Innovation
  • Seek out emerging and potentially disruptive systems, methods, and technology to keep the company at the forefront of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the Office of Applied Technology by identifying and reviewing proposed investments in advanced technology to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Provide overall technical leadership, vision, and guidance to the practice area.
  • Collaborate with other Practice Leads to ensure best management practices are consistently applied to achieve technology advancement goals.
  • Identify and appoint Technology Leads to advance the practice within their specific expertise and measure their performance through annual PDPs and goal setting.
  • Develop an annual “talent tree” for the practice area to assess depth of talent and bench strength, supporting hiring of technology‑based staff.
  • Mentor or coach selected staff in their area of expertise.
  • Assist the market segment in identifying skill inventory within the practice of their expertise.
  • Review technical paper requests, abstracts, and papers.
Business Development
  • Support the CBDO and CTO in developing strategic growth plans based on technology advancement.
  • Work with the Market Segment Lead to drive growth by leveraging existing relationships and developing new ones to achieve sales goals.
  • Develop and implement plans to apply innovation to the practice and clients through internal and external activities, including hosting seminars for staff and targeted clients.
  • Provide input for strategy and messaging for proposal development, ensuring qualifications are optimized and technical approaches are clear, compliant, and focused to increase success rates.
  • Participate in or provide technical input on client sales calls and presentations.
  • Advance branding strategy as thought leaders by participating in associations, volunteering for leadership positions, engaging in technology focus groups, writing for publications, and presenting at conferences; encourage and support other practice members to do the same.
Operations
  • Provide technical input on projects and initiatives.
  • Work closely with MSLs to develop hiring strategies for improving depth and skills of the talent tree; lead search for strategic technology‑based hires.
  • Lead an annual staff assessment and report to the Market Segment Lead to identify technical, training, and project management needs; drive the staff improvement process through the Market Segment Leads.
  • Support the Standards Committee by developing and maintaining design protocols originating from the practice to enhance and standardize project delivery consistency, including leading the development of Design Guidelines for the practice and client-specific guidelines.
  • Work with the Market Segment Lead, Project Directors, and Quality Manager to assist in providing QA/QC support by ensuring appropriately skilled staff review projects and initiatives.
  • Research and provide regulatory updates to practices covered by the technology.
  • Provide cross‑training for skills developed under the practice.
  • Oversee and manage the business planning process and execution of market segment and Practice participation in technical training and conferences; set attendance criteria, define learning or client engagement goals, ensure post‑event knowledge sharing, and track outcomes to assess value.
  • Support and promote DEI initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the area of practice required.
  • Professional Engineering License required.
  • 15 years of experience in the Power Industry required.
  • Knowledge of Power Distribution, Transmission, and Substation required.
