Job summary

The Alliance for Collective Action (operating brand: The Alliance Center) is seeking a Power Plant Operations Engineer to enhance our Network Operations team. This role focuses on optimizing energy storage systems with the integration of advanced technologies. The ideal candidate will have a BS in Electrical Engineering and experience with relevant systems.

The position is based in Broomfield, CO, or US remote, with occasional travel required. We offer competitive compensation, full health benefits from day one, a 401(k), and flexible time off.

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years’ experience with systems incorporating batteries, solar, and power conversion.
  • Aptitude to learn new systems and technical applications quickly.

  • Ability to think creatively to resolve problems.

  • Identify and troubleshoot ESS equipment and operational incidents.
  • Collaborate with Product Development Team for new products.

Job description

Power Plant Operations Engineer (PPOE)

We are looking for a Power Plant Operations Engineer to join our Network Operations team that operates, maintains, and optimizes performance of Stem’s full portfolio of behind-the-meter (BTM) and front-of-the-meter (FTM) energy storage systems (ESS). The candidate will work with advanced technologies in Artificial Intelligence, IoT Networking, Energy Storage use‑cases, and hardware/controls integration to revolutionize the grid.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, prioritize, and troubleshoot ESS equipment and operational incidents in accordance with customer business requirements, organizational policies, and operational impact.
  • Collaborate with Product Development Team to ensure operational sustainability is considered during new product introduction.
  • Create KPIs to analyze and discover potential issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop tools and processes to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create new rules for our data engine to support strategic root‑cause corrections.
  • Provide timely response to all incidents, outages, and performance alerts; categorize issues for escalation to appropriate technical teams.
  • Document all actions in accordance with standard company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with field technicians during installation and operational issue resolution.
  • Work with internal and external technical and service teams to support both temporary and permanent solutions to system issues, and create and/or update knowledge base articles.
  • Perform basic systems testing and operational tasks (installation of patches, network connectivity testing, script execution, etc.).
  • Lead multiple ad hoc technical teams in operational environments with high uptime requirements.
  • Train and support Tier 1 team on new systems, devices, and projects.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 1–3+ years’ experience with systems incorporating batteries, solar, and power conversion.
  • Aptitude to learn new systems and technical applications quickly.
  • Self‑motivated and detail‑oriented with a strong desire for high‑quality performance.
  • Basic knowledge of network communication architectures and protocols.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex issues clearly to customers and technical personnel in high‑stress situations.
  • Ability to think creatively to resolve problems.
  • Experience with Jira & Confluence, SQL, Python, Linux/command line, Big Data visualization, and relational databases.
  • Knowledge in electrical power and metering systems is a plus.
Location

This position is based in our Broomfield, CO office or US Remote. Occasional travel may be required for in‑person team meetings.

Salary Range

$70,160.00 - $105,240.00
