Job description

Operate, monitor and maintain generators, switchgear controls, motor control center and equipment associated with mechanical equipment used to monitor and distribute electricity.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Monitors and maintains the oil and fluid levels of power plant equipment in accordance with standard Department procedures and Borough policy.
  2. Monitors and makes necessary adjustments to water temperatures and pressures.
  3. Operates and maintains stationary engines, generator sets, associated mechanical equipment and facilities.
  4. Maintains generator cooling system, mixing and testing for recommended levels.
  5. Changes oil, fuel and air filters.
  6. Maintains a daily log of equipment performance, power output, generator operations, and power and fuel outages.
  7. Assists Lead Power Plant Operator and Village Services Supervisor with inventory; requests, receives and stores supplies and equipment.
  8. Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
  9. Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
  10. Attends all required scheduled safety meetings.
  11. Responds to power plant alarms and power failures, and reports problems to supervisor.
  12. May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evenings, holidays, and weekends and may be subject to 24-hour on-call status.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
