Power Plant Mechanic III
Eglin AFB FL

Salary rate: $50.00 - $60.00 hourly, DOE

Position Summary

Tactical Air Support is seeking a highly skilled Power Plant Mechanic III to maintain and repair F5 Fighter Jets. This position includes removal and installing engines. The power plant mechanic is expected to be able to troubleshoot issues and repair engines and fuel systems using technical data, and publications. This position requires "outside the box" thinking and troubleshooting. The position also requires the use of power tools, calibrated tools, and heavy equipment such as engine work stands, removal, and installation of trailers.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, inspect, and perform maintenance on company aircraft.
  • Launch and recover, perform pre/post flight inspections.
  • Perform maintenance on aerospace ground equipment as required.
  • Perform and document work performed per appropriate manuals and regulations as required.
  • Adhere to the General Work Requirements for factory, shop, and/or hangar positions.
  • Comply with Environmental Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all work in a safe and timely manner.
  • Operate ground support equipment as required.
  • Perform mechanical/electrical removals and installations.
  • Assist other maintenance disciplines as needed.
  • Assist with fuel and/or de-fuel of aircraft as needed.
  • Assist with engine removal/installation as needed.
  • Assist with aircraft component repair as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED with 10+ years of experience working with military fighter jets, specifically F-5/T-38.
  • Ten+ years working on GE J-85-21 engines at O-Level, I-Level and/or Test Cell level.
  • General knowledge and use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Must be able to work and interact with other mechanics and supervisors professionally.
  • Familiar with fire safety and first aid equipment.
  • Must possess a currently valid Driver's License.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Desired Experience/Skills

  • 10+ years GE J-85-21B or -21C experience mandatory.
  • FAA Airframe and Power Plant License.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance, if required).
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, reaching with hands and arms.
  • Regularly ascend/descend stairs and/or ladders.

Work Authorization and Environment

  • Must be lawfully eligible to work in the United States and complete a U.S. government I-9 Form.
  • Tactical Air Support is a Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace. Pre-employment, random, or for cause drug/alcohol testing (including for marijuana) is required.
  • Pre-employment and ongoing physical certifications are required.
  • Occasional aircraft hangar or warehouse environment with exposure to loud noises, fumes from engines and chemicals, unpredictable climate (hot/cold), electrical shock, or trip or slip hazards.
  • Work outside in different weather conditions to launch and recover aircraft.
  • May be exposed to or required to handle hazardous materials.
  • Specific work hours determined by operational, departmental, or contractual requirements.
  • Occasional/Moderate evening, weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required.
  • Occasional/Moderate travel to various work sites throughout the U.S. may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
