Job summary

Keel Infrastructure is seeking a Fuels Technician responsible for operating and maintaining equipment and performing routine maintenance safely. This role includes ensuring compliance with safety standards, operating various mobile equipment, and maintaining site conditions.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English, operate heavy machinery, and work flexible hours. Competitive training and MSHA certification are provided.

Job description

General Summary

The Fuels Technician is responsible for starting, stopping, regulating, controlling, evaluating, performing routine maintenance, and operating a variety of mobile equipment, material handling systems and ash conditioning equipment in a safe, reliable, efficient manner and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Primary Functions
  • Ensures that equipment and site conditions meet MSHA safety and health standards and follows all Company safety and health rules and regulations.
  • Operate and maintain all mobile equipment, including but not limited to bulldozer, front‑end loader, excavator, tractor, water trucks and utility truck.
  • Assist in site maintenance (e.g., maintains entry road by fixing potholes, grading and crowning, clearing culverts, cleaning fuel yard buildings, routine maintenance on fuel yard processing equipment, etc.).
  • Loads and unloads trucks.
  • Supply the plant with the quality of fuel that is required.
  • Perform all building and grounds maintenance and maintain housekeeping standards in all assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Complies with all state, federal and local environmental laws and ensures that the site meets environmental requirements by assisting in controlling dust, erosion and sedimentation and water treatment.
  • Complete Fuel Training within one (1) year.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Fuels Technician operates from established procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed protocols and guidelines. The Fuels Technician encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. They must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in full compliance with all MSHA and environmental permits, at all times, communicate information to supervisors and fellow employees, provide suggestions for site improvements, and achieve an optimum cost‑benefit ratio.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Fuels Technician reports to the Yard Supervisor and responds to direction from the shift supervisor in the absence of the Fuels Supervisor. They work in cooperation with site crews on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical requirements include working on your feet for 8‑hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 lbs. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hardhats, safety glasses, dust masks, ear protection). Work with hazardous material may be required. The position requires extended working hours with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. “On‑call” status will periodically be required. All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post‑offer physical examination and drug screening and post‑employment random drug screening.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively both orally and in writing English and perform basic mathematical computations (high school diploma or equivalent preferred).
  • Ability to obtain MSHA certification (training provided by Company).
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (i.e., front‑end loader, dozer, excavator, tractor, water and utility truck) and to fuel and complete basic maintenance functions.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric/pneumatic tools, rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, slings and implements such as lances, shovels, pry bars, etc.
  • Ability to work overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled, on days of relief and beyond regular work schedule. Ability to work rotating shift work, including holidays, nights and weekends, as needed.
