Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Plant Engineer to provide engineering support for plant operations, maintenance, reliability, and capital projects in a safe and compliant facility. You will partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Plant Leadership to optimize equipment performance and lifecycle.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least five years of experience in a combined-cycle or similar industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • Solid knowledge of power generation systems and combined-cycle plant operations.
  • Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) or predictive maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for daily plant operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment reliability.
  • Monitor plant performance data and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and operating costs.
  • Lead or participate in RCA and FMEA and develop corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage MOC documentation for plant modifications.
  • Support outages, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare engineering reports and equipment documentation.
  • Provide technical support for procurement and project execution.

Job Description Summary

The Plant Engineer provides engineering support for plant operations, maintenance, reliability, and capital improvement projects to ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements. This role partners with Operations, Maintenance, and Plant Leadership to optimize equipment performance, improve reliability, support outage execution, and implement engineering solutions that maximize plant availability and lifecycle performance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for daily plant operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment reliability.
  • Monitor and analyze plant performance data to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, availability, and operating costs.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement equipment repairs, plant upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
  • Support preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs through equipment monitoring, testing, and reliability analysis.
  • Lead or participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and development of corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage Management of Change (MOC) documentation for plant modifications.
  • Support planning and execution of planned outages, major inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare engineering reports, performance analyses, technical specifications, scopes of work, and equipment documentation.
  • Provide technical support for equipment procurement, contractor oversight, and project execution.
  • Assist with preparation and management of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with plant procedures, environmental permits, NERC requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and ensuring safe work practices for employees and contractors.
  • Respond to plant emergencies and provide engineering support during abnormal operating conditions and equipment failures.
  • Serve as the technical lead for assigned projects and engineering initiatives, exercising sound engineering judgment with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five (3) years of engineering, operations, or maintenance experience in a combined-cycle power plant, power generation, process plant, marine, or similar industrial facility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating and maintaining combined-cycle power plants.
  • Experience with GE Frame 7FA gas turbine technology.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine controls, distributed control systems (DCS), instrumentation and electrical (I&E) systems.
  • Working knowledge of NERC reliability standards and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance, or asset management programs.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • AutoCAD experience.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement practical engineering solutions.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and industry standards.
  • Experience managing engineering projects from planning through implementation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operating environment while exercising independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical, respirator fit test, and hearing evaluation.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear, and respirator.
  • Ability to respond to emergency callouts and work overtime during outages, inspections, and plant operational events.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $78,800.00 and $131,200.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
