Job summary

Alliant Energy in Burlington, IA is seeking an Apprentice or Journey level operator to safely and efficiently run steam turbine generating units and related equipment. The role requires vigilance, adherence to safety protocols and precise monitoring of plant conditions.

You will monitor gauges, record operating data, assist in training, and help maintain logs. This position emphasizes teamwork, safety, and reliable power generation for the community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read P&ID’s, operating manuals and technical manuals.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills; strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in safety and follow rules and policies.
  • Observe safety rules, policies, and practices and encourage safe work.
  • Operate control equipment for safe boiler, turbine and auxiliary equipment operation.
  • Start, operate, inspect and shut down steam turbine generating units and related equipment.
  • Record pressures, temperatures and flows; ensure gauges indicate normal conditions.
  • Prepare logs and reports; inform supervisor of abnormal conditions.
  • Assist in training, Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, and maintenance activities.

Job Summary

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units, auxiliary equipment, etc., in the plant for a given shift.

What you will do
  • Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety.
  • Observe safety rules, policies, and practices.
  • Encourage safe work behaviors and promptly correct conditions and unsafe behavior which may lead to accidents.
  • Ensure strict adherence to corporate values in complying with all environmental, safety and other laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that all aspects of plant operations remain in compliance with environmental rules and regulations.
  • Operate control equipment to obtain safe and proper operation of boilers, turbines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Start, operate, inspect and shut down all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units and all associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Observe and record pressures, temperatures and flows on all operating equipment; check to see that all meters and gauges indicate normal conditions for loading on units.
  • Operate switchboard and associated equipment to obtain safe and proper operation of plant and system electrical equipment.
  • Prepare logs and reports as required.
  • Inform the Operating Crew Foreman (where applicable) or supervisor of any abnormal or unusual conditions that may occur.
  • Performs troubleshooting activities related to plant operating systems.
  • Assist in cleaning and housekeeping of all plant equipment and operating areas.
  • Assist in training of employees.
  • Assist in Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures to take equipment out of service and to restore equipment to active status.
  • Perform PM and may assist with maintenance work.
  • Perform all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
  • Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Education Requirements

Pay Range:

$48.54 - $51.35
