Seaboard Marine in Miami, Florida, is seeking a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to assist with maintenance and repairs of their fleet, which includes vehicles and heavy equipment. The role requires enrollment in the Miami-Dade County Diesel Technician apprenticeship program.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in equipment maintenance and demonstrate safe tool usage. Excellent benefits including a 401(K) plan and health insurance are offered. Candidates must work weekends and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in equipment maintenance, repairs, and operations.
  • Ability to use hand, pneumatic, and electric tools safely.
  • Must remain enrolled in the apprenticeship program.

Responsabilités

  • Assist with preventative maintenance services on vehicles.
  • Help perform maintenance on diesel engines and systems.
  • Maintain a clean work area free of debris.

Position Summary

This position assists with the maintenance and repairs of the company’s fleet. The fleet consists of vehicles and heavy equipment (top loaders, mules, forklifts, box trucks, step vans, etc.). To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in equipment maintenance, repairs, operations, and maintenance programs. Must be currently enrolled in a Miami‑Dade County Diesel Technician apprenticeship program.
  • Candidate must remain enrolled in the Miami‑Dade County Diesel Technician apprenticeship program and complete all the required coursework and on‑the‑job training.
  • Demonstrated safe and proper application of hand, pneumatic, and electric tools.
  • Ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) in basic English.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Well‑developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift certification within 90 days of employment.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Duties and Responsibilities

Primary

  • Learning the intricacies and best practices of preventative maintenance services and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment under the guidance of experienced Diesel Mechanics.
  • Assist in the performance of all planned maintenance on diesel engines and on fuel, brake, and transmission systems to ensure peak performance, safety, and longevity of equipment.
  • Assist with minor repair work to the brake, electric, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist in the overhaul and repair and/or rebuild of all vehicles and power industrial trucks.
  • Fix and/or replace lights on all vehicles and power industrial trucks.
  • Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards, and maintain an awareness of surrounding (i.e. vehicles, equipment, etc.) at all times.

Secondary

  • Assists with minor bodywork repairs and finishes to the fleet.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Subject to physical and/or DOT screening is required along with other tests as applicable.
  • The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, grasp, exercise repetitive wrist motion, and eye‑hand coordination.
  • The employee is continuously required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, squat, twist, pinch, bend, and reach forward and overhead.
  • The employee is occasionally required to kneel, crawl, exercise repetitive foot motion, eye‑hand‑foot coordination and finger dexterity.
  • The employee is frequently required to lift and carry up to 5 pounds and occasionally required to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Safety Requirements
  • Report safety hazards.
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers.
Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direct supervision from the Mechanic’s Foreman. Does not exercise supervision over the Power Shop Department and/or any other department.

Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in the shop/outdoors; exposed to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind, and high humidity during day and night shifts.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Moderate vibration through hands when using power tools and throughout body when operating power industrial equipment.
