Job summary

Daymark Energy Advisors is seeking a Power Market Simulation/Forecasting Expert to support clients in understanding evolving power markets. The role involves performing price forecasts using PLEXOS, leading teams, and engaging with clients across the U.S. and Canada.

Power Market Simulation/Forecasting Expert

We are building our team to support clients’ growing needs and we are looking for an exceptional candidate with expertise in power market modeling, zonal and/or nodal simulation, and forecasting to join our team. The Power Market Simulation/Forecasting Expert will help our team meet our clients’ growing need for insights into the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly evolving power markets.

Salary range for this position is $95,000 - $125,000 depending upon experience and qualifications.

Role

You will work closely with Daymark’s dynamic team of analysts, consultants, trusted advisors, and practice area leads to deliver advice and analysis to clients, including developers, utilities, large loads, and state agencies across the U.S. and Canada, helping them evaluate options and navigate the technical, economic, and commercial issues that characterize today’s rapidly evolving power sector.

Primary responsibilities
  • Perform power market model‑based price forecasts and analyses of the evolving power system landscape using the PLEXOS software by Energy Exemplar in both zonal and nodal configurations.
  • Assess the LMP impacts of integrating large amounts of renewable resources.
  • Assess impacts of adding carbon charges on market performance, production costs, and emissions.
  • Assess risks/benefits of congestion and curtailment on proposed system enhancements including generators and transmission upgrades.
  • Lead, supervise, and support teams in market research, data acquisition, model updates, data reporting, and visual graphics creation, primarily using Excel and scripting.
  • Identify impactful work initiatives and take responsibility to usher them to completion in an effective manner, engaging with clients and project teams, as appropriate.
  • Provide analysis and expertise to enhance the firm’s market analytics and consulting activities.
  • Maintain and improve energy market and power system databases.
  • Consider or develop methodologies for proprietary models for use in providing power market‑related services to clients.
  • Project management and project oversight responsibilities for projects ranging in size and complexity.
Required skills and qualifications
  • Hands‑on approach with a can‑do attitude, curiosity, and desire to help others succeed in a team environment.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mathematics, economics, engineering (electrical preferred), or similar quantitative field.
  • Three to 10 years’ professional experience operating zonal or nodal market simulation models in industry recognized products such as PLEXOS, ProMod, EnCompass. Prior PLEXOS experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with congestion curtailment analysis, capacity expansion methodologies, battery optimization modeling, and/or GIS is a plus.
  • Experience using PLEXOS API/Cloud SDK and automating data workflows is a plus.
  • Prior consulting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage and lead small teams of analysts to execute deliverables.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team to develop and rapidly iterate on technical views to incorporate feedback from internal and external parties.
  • Ability to advance new technical solutions (e.g., model improvements, analytics) with limited guidance.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more North American power market (e.g., ERCOT, ISO New England, NYISO).
  • Advanced Excel skills; demonstrated ability to work in Python or R is preferred.
  • Analytical skills, sound judgment, creative problem solving, and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels in the organization and externally with clients, both verbal and written.
