Job summary

OpenAI's Frontier Systems team is seeking a software engineer focused on power management for large-scale supercomputers used in frontier model training. You will develop system- and software-level solutions to optimize power usage, ensuring reliable, efficient operation during intensive workloads.

You'll collaborate with researchers and hardware teams, build automation for monitoring and remediation, and push continuous improvements in power control across IT and hardware interfaces.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale system challenges.
• Strong proficiency in Python and automation scripting.
• Experience with distributed systems to aggregate and analyze streaming data.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering concepts including DSP and power systems.
• Experience in system-level investigations and automated remediation solutions.
• Strong analytical skills in noisy data (SQL, PromQL, Pandas).
• Ability to work with hardware and software teams on multidisciplinary problems.

Responsibilities

• Develop system- and software-level solutions to optimize power usage in large-scale supercomputers.
• Build automation to monitor power consumption patterns during training workloads and stabilize fluctuations.
• Design tools for real-time monitoring, detection, and remediation of power-related faults.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate electrical requirements into code.
• Drive development of power throttling mechanisms at the IT system level.
