Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking an experienced Power Line Foreman to lead field crews in constructing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, restoring, and repairing LP&L's overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution facilities in the locality.

This field-based role requires coordinating people, equipment, materials, outages, switching, and safety controls to ensure work is performed safely and according to approved standards.

Qualifications

  • Interpret drawings, prints, specifications, and maps to meet approved designs.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, contractors, inspectors, customers, and stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Ensure quality and documentation; coach crews on safety, productivity, and compliance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job description

If you're an experienced Journeyman Lineman ready to put your field expertise to work leading a crew, this is an opportunity to help shape the safety, reliability, and quality of LP&L's electric system.

As a Power Line Foreman, you'll lead crews responsible for constructing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, restoring, and repairing LP&L's overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution facilities. In this field-based role, you’ll coordinate people, equipment, materials, work assignments, outages, switching requirements, and other resources to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to approved standards.

What You'll Do
  • Lead line crews performing construction, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, restoration, and repair of overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution facilities.
  • Lead crew safety and jobsite execution by identifying hazards, establishing controls, conducting safety briefings, monitoring conditions, and exercising stop-work authority when necessary.
  • Plan and coordinate work by organizing personnel, equipment, materials, vehicles, outages, switching, traffic control, schedules, and other resources needed to complete assignments.
  • Interpret and apply technical information including engineering drawings, staking sheets, construction prints, specifications, maps, GIS, work orders, and scopes to ensure work meets approved designs and standards.
  • Coordinate field projects and partnerships by monitoring progress, identifying constraints, communicating changes, and working with Engineering, Operations, contractors, inspectors, customers, and other stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Ensure quality, documentation, and employee performance by verifying completed work, maintaining accurate records and closeout information, and coaching employees on safety, productivity, workmanship, attendance, and compliance.

  • Strong Crew Performance: Employees receive clear expectations, coaching, feedback, and accountability that support safe, productive, and high-quality performance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman, including at least 1 year of lead, supervisory, or foreman-level experience in electric utility construction, maintenance, or operations.
  • Journeyman Lineman qualification or equivalent documented electric utility lineworker training and experience.
  • Valid Texas CDL appropriate for assigned duties.
  • Successful completion of required physical examination.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered.

  • Interprets technical information, communicates clearly with internal and external stakeholders, and resolves field issues within established standards and authority.
Physical Requirements
  • This position primarily works in outdoor utility and construction environments and will require physical activity associated with performing and supervising electrical line work, including climbing, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and operating tools and equipment.
  • The position will require continuously lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and frequently lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds to load and transport materials and equipment.
  • The employee will be required to work around energized electric facilities, construction equipment, traffic, varying weather conditions, and uneven terrain and will occasionally climb ladders, poles, structures, and equipment or kneel and work in restricted positions.
  • The position will require frequent movement, visual observation, and operation of vehicles and utility equipment.
  • The employee will be required to work varying hours, participate in on-call assignments, respond to emergencies, and support storm restoration as necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.
