Job summary

PowerSecure is seeking a Power Generation Quality Control Technician I - Inspector to perform inspections and functional testing on manufactured generator systems, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and safe energization ready for on-site use.

The role requires NFPA 70E certification, a high school diploma, and hands-on experience with switchgear or generator systems. You will document test results, interpret schematics, and support continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • NFPA 70E certification required (PowerSecure may provide).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and written instructions.
  • Ability to document test results and specifications accurately.
  • Ability to perform basic math for measurements and calculations.
  • Must wear and maintain PPE.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with switchgear, electrical, or generator systems (apprenticeship acceptable).
  • Engineering or programming experience may be considered in lieu of direct experience.

Responsibilities

  • Locate, organize, and maintain documentation for specific jobs.
  • Perform inspections and testing procedures according to quality standards.
  • Execute test sequences per project documentation and engineering requirements.
  • Record test results and component specifications accurately.
  • Move equipment using a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Remove and reinstall panels up to 50 pounds.
  • Support quality initiatives and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct pre-start checks, house power inspections, electrical inspections, and functional performance testing as applicable.

Power Generation Quality Control Technician I - Inspector

Job Category: Manufacturing & Engineering

Perform all inspections and functional testing on manufactured generator systems to ensure equipment meets applicable electrical codes, functions as designed by the specified engineer, and is safe to be energized on-site before leaving the manufacturing plant.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • NFPA 70E certification required. Certification may be provided by PowerSecure if other qualifications are satisfactory.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operations manuals, and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow reporting guidelines and accurately document test results and product specifications.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure to determine splice plate length, voltage measurements, and amperage ratios.
  • Ability to wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with switchgear, electrical systems, or generator systems unless applying for an apprenticeship position.
  • Engineering or programming experience may be accepted in lieu of switchgear, electrical, or generator experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of electrical schematics and the ability to interpret mechanical notes.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair nonconforming electrical circuits.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing and testing environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preliminary pre-start checks

  • Functional performance testing
  • Power quality meter setup and data acquisition
  • Application of ISO 8520 and UL 2200 standards
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)

Physical Demands

  • Limited local travel required (less than 10%).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and position oneself in various locations, including low-to-the-ground and elevated positions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to manipulate heavy testing equipment and cables.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate computers, PLCs, controllers, protective relays, and related equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.

Work is performed in both manufacturing and outdoor testing environments. Employees may be exposed to:

  • Heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions
  • Electrical hazards
  • Forklifts and other moving equipment
  • Cuts, abrasions, and minor injuries associated with testing, inspections, and equipment handling
  • Appropriate safety procedures and PPE are required at all times.
