The Orange County Fleet Management Division has been recognized multiple times since 2016 as a Top 50 Leading Fleet in North America. We provide outstanding customer service while repairing and maintaining Orange County’s 4,200+ vehicle and equipment assets. We are seeking team players with excellent communication skills who have a desire to help our customers reach their goals.
The Power Generation Electrician will be part of Fleet’s Emergency Generator Support Team. This team is responsible for repair and maintenance of 225+ portable and permanent generators throughout Orange County. The work is performed during normal working hours and after-hours including nights, early mornings, and weekends. This position will be required to be part of the 24/7 on-call rotation and to be available before, during, and after declared emergencies (i.e. hurricanes).
Job Description
General Functions
Performs electrical repairs and preventive maintenance on County owned and operated generators for multiple critical facilities. Installs, trouble shoots and repairs controls and instrumentation as needed to upgrade and update obsolete equipment including electrical services, test motors, generators, lighting and power distribution systems. Troubleshoots and repairs motor controls, transfer switches and cabling.
Representative Duties/Assignments
- Troubleshoots and repairs controls and electrical on heavy industrial equipment including generators and up to 4,160 volt power distribution equipment. Maintains and troubleshoots large horsepower motors. Calibrates control equipment to factory specifications. Tests and performs preventative and predictive maintenance on motor control systems and AC/DC motors.
- Troubleshoots equipment using diagrams and electrical run sheets. Uses technical manuals and prints to isolate and repair of emergency power systems.
- Maintains and updates an effective generator preventative maintenance program ensuring all equipment is maintained on a periodic schedule and equipment is maintained in a timely manner.
- Repairs and maintains an extensive power system in support of building maintenance. Install new conduit, boxes, and panels and pull wire to code as needed to support equipment maintenance, upgrades and replacement of power units.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and five years of electrical experience in industrial motor controls. Exhibits knowledge and experience maintaining electronics instruments in accordance with technical specifications, experience with test meters for measuring current, voltage and resistance, and have worked from wiring schematics and prints to accomplish repairs; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
Must possess a Journeyman Electrical License.
Must be familiar with and utilize the NFPA standards for fire, electrical and building safety. Must be able to determine problems commonly associated with motors, generators, and service.
Based on area of assignment, must have the ability to conform to confined space entry procedures and use of safety equipment including respirator equipment per Orange County requirements.
Must possess adequate tools to perform assigned duties.
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. May be required to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Preferences
- Experience in repair and maintenance of emergency generators and/or diesel engines.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to clearly communicate with a wide variety of customers.
- Ability to work independently.

Pay Grade: 111 - From $20.82 to $27.16
