Job summary

Optomi, in partnership with a leading utility and energy organization, is seeking a Power Engineer to join their Telecommunications Engineering team in Raleigh, NC. The role involves designing, implementing, testing, and documenting complex AC and DC power solutions for telecom and critical infrastructure systems.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in electrical/telecom power, hands-on experience with AC/DC systems, UPS, DC plants, grounding, and network basics; this hybrid role requires onsite

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of electrical engineering or telecom power experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AC power systems (120/240V) and DC power systems (48V and 130V).
  • Deep knowledge of UPS, DC plant systems, rectifiers, and battery monitoring.
  • Experience with telecom grounding for shelters, towers, and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with backup generators and power redundancy.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and telecom networks.
  • Experience with scripting or programming (Python, Bash) preferred.
  • Experience in utility, telecom, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Strong documentation skills with drawings, schematics, and design packages.
  • Familiarity with Agile engineering practices and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support AC/DC telecom power systems including UPS, DC plants, and backup power infrastructure
  • Develop engineering job packages (EJPs), including equipment lists, installation instructions, drawings, and diagrams
  • Perform system design work to ensure cost-effective, reliable, scalable telecom power solutions
  • Prepare cost estimates, technical studies, and work orders for planned deployments
  • Provide technical support to field operations, NOC teams, installation crews, and maintenance personnel
  • Support troubleshooting and advanced problem resolution for telecom power systems
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project teams to deliver upgrades
  • Maintain awareness of current telecom power technologies and industry best practices
  • Support documentation, standards compliance, and system optimization
  • Contribute to process improvements for operational efficiency and scalability

Job description

Optomi, in partnership with a leading utility and energy organization, is seeking a Power Engineer to join their Telecommunications Engineering team in Raleigh, NC. This engineer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, testing, and documenting complex AC and DC power solutions supporting telecom and critical infrastructure systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in AC/DC power engineering, UPS systems, DC plant infrastructure, grounding systems, and telecom facility power design. This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering role responsible for ensuring reliable and cost-effective telecom power systems that support enterprise communication networks. This position requires strong independent execution, collaboration across engineering and operations teams, and the ability to support both design and field implementation activities. This role is hybrid and requires onsite presence in downtown Raleigh three days per week.
