Job description

Shape Your World

At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper & world-shaper.

Shape your world by helping keep the electrical systems behind Warrick Operations safe, reliable, and ready to perform. This role offers broad ownership across power generation and distribution, hands-on problem solving, end-to-end project leadership, and the opportunity to serve as a trusted electrical resource for an industrial operation.

About The Role

As a Power Engineer at Warrick Operations, you will provide electrical engineering expertise that supports safe, reliable, and efficient power generation and distribution for manufacturing operations. Working primarily on-site, you will be a broad technical resource for maintenance, production, engineering partners, and contracted services across low-, medium-, and high-voltage applications. You will balance urgent plant support with long-term reliability improvements and will be expected to take initiative, communicate clear technical recommendations, and follow work through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support power generation, transmission, and distribution systems across low-, medium-, and high-voltage applications, with a consistent focus on safety, reliability, and operational performance.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues with maintenance and production teams, using structured analysis and root cause methods to implement practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Lead electrical projects from concept and design through equipment specification, contractor coordination, commissioning, documentation, and closure.
  • Improve electrical system reliability through preventive programs, equipment and process improvements, and sound engineering practices.
  • Provide technical support for PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC drives, variable frequency drives, motor controls, protective and solid-state relays, load-distribution equipment, and switchyard systems.
  • Mentor technical staff and collaborate across maintenance, production, engineering, and contracted services while reinforcing electrical safety and environmental compliance.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with power transmission and distribution systems, including exposure to high-to-low voltage delivery. For early-career candidates, relevant co-op, internship, military, academic, or project experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC drives, variable frequency drives, and motor-control systems, with the ability to explain your direct contribution to troubleshooting, design, specification, programming, or commissioning work.
  • Ability to lead or meaningfully own electrical engineering projects through completion. Substantial capstone or co-op project ownership may be considered for early-career candidates.
  • Safety-first judgment and practical awareness of electrical hazards, risk assessment, isolation and lockout practices, arc-flash controls, PPE, and applicable codes or standards.
  • Strong analytical problem solving, self-direction, clear communication, collaboration, and accountability, including the ability to translate technical recommendations for partners with different levels of electrical knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in power generation, utilities, heavy manufacturing, metals, chemicals, pulp and paper, mining, or a comparable industrial electrical environment.
  • Experience with reliability methods, root cause analysis, industrial maintenance, and capital project leadership.
  • Experience with switchyards, substations, protective relays, power-system studies, or complex industrial power distribution.
  • Familiarity with engineering software tools and Microsoft Office applications.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily on-site at Warrick Power Plant / Warrick Operations, generally Monday through Friday during daytime hours.
  • Industrial power-generation environment that includes high-voltage equipment, rotating machinery, required PPE, and strict safety protocols.
  • Occasional calls or off-hours support may be required during outages or emergencies.
What's On Offer
  • Competitive compensation packages, including pay-for-performance variable pay as well as recognition and rewards programs.
  • Flexible spending accounts and generous employer contribution to the HSA.
  • 401(k), employer match up to 6%, additional employer retirement income contribution (no vesting period), and a nonqualified deferred compensation plan.
  • Holiday Pay: 10 holidays and one flexible holiday of your choice.
  • Alcoa has been chosen as one of America's Greatest Workplaces 2023 by Newsweek.
