Position Purpose

Capstone Energy+, INC. is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to provide technical expertise for the development of power electronics, inverters, magnetic components, power supplies, and energy storage systems. This role participates in the requirements definition, design, fabrication, and testing of electronic modules used to generate electrical power — directly supporting Capstone’s mission to deliver reliable, on-site clean energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Requirements & Design
  • Participate with systems engineering to complete requirements analysis for power electronics subsystems.
  • Document technical requirements for power electronics, inverters, magnetic components, power supplies, and energy storage systems.
  • Perform computer-aided design of electronics and control electronics subsystems.
Development & Testing
  • Participate with engineers and technicians to design and test electronic subsystems that provide output electrical power.
  • Participate in and direct the fabrication and testing of power electronics hardware where applicable.
  • Execute automatic and manual testing of electronics and control electronics subsystems.
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate with and/or supervise appropriate personnel from Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure electronics and control subsystems meet specifications.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and systems engineering on design integration and production readiness.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required; MS or PhD preferred.
  • 7+ years of hands‑on experience designing and testing power electronic subsystems.
  • Specific experience in the design and testing of power electronics for electrical power generation.
Technical Skills — Required
  • Demonstrated capability to design and test IGBT-based 30 kW–500 kW power inverters.
  • Demonstrated capability to design and test high‑voltage DC/DC converters.
  • Knowledge and experience designing noise‑immune power and control circuits, including EMI filter design and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with power electronics simulation tools: PSIM Pro, MATLAB/Simulink, and PSPICE.
  • Excellent background in the design of magnetic devices including generators, inductors, and transformers.
  • Demonstrated capability in schematic design and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic component selection.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to collaborate within multidisciplinary design and production teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills; ability to supervise junior engineers.
Technical Skills — Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience developing Battery Management Systems for Lithium, Lead/Acid, and other battery chemistries.
  • Familiarity with low‑power supply design.
  • Familiarity with Ansoft Finite Element Analysis tools.
  • Real‑time programming and debugging in C and assembly language.
  • Capability to understand mechanical engineering, physical, thermodynamic, and chemical principles relevant to power system design.
  • Experience with OrCAD and PADS for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Familiarity with high‑speed digital circuit design using microprocessors and DSPs (Microchip, TI, Motorola).
  • Experience with HALT and HASS testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with motor drives and power supply design and test environments.

Work Environment
  • Work primarily performed in an office environment.
  • Test cell environment — hearing protection and eye protection required.
  • Exposure to high‑power electrical systems and combustible fuel.
  • Required to sit for extended periods; extensive computer use.
  • Required to work within a test laboratory environment including bending, standing, and sitting.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • Willingness to work beyond a standard 40‑hour workweek as required to meet schedule commitments.
