RCT Systems PSD is seeking a mid-level to senior Power Electronics/Electrical Engineer with 8+ years of experience in power electronics hardware, controller design, and testing. The role includes designing SiC/GaN converters, developing CHIL/PHIL test setups, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver advanced power conversion systems.

Responsibilities encompass test procedure development, publication of technical material, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering or related field; graduate work acceptable in lieu of some experience.
• 5+ years of experience in power electronics hardware/design or related field.
• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and test WBG-based power electronic converters (SiC/GaN) including topologies like active rectifiers and high-speed motor drives.
• Develop CHIL/PHIL and other real-time test setups for validation.
• Lead cross-functional teams to develop solid-state power conversion systems.

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to IP via patents and papers.

Power Electronics/Electrical Engineer (Mid-Level to Senior, 8+ Yrs Experience) - $110K – $200K

RCT Systems, Power Systems Division, is seeking a mid-level to senior Power Electronics / Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Electronics Hardware and Controller Design and Testing. Responsibilities of a qualified candidate will include:

• Design and test WBG- (SiC or GaN) based power electronic converter topologies including active rectifiers, isolated DC-DC converters, solid-state-transformers, and high-speed motor drives


• Design and test power electronic converter digital control algorithms


• Develop Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL), Power-Hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL), or real-time (RT) test setups


• Design and test systems based on WBG semiconductor modules ranging from 1.2 kV to 10 kV


• Lead cross-functional teams to develop solid-state power conversion systems


• Provide technical input into business development activities


• Create, review, and issue prototype and production level test procedures and test plans


• Write and/or review EE focused patents, whitepapers, and technical conference/journal articles


• Mentor junior Engineers

Minimum Requirements:

• United States Citizenship is required due to US Government ITAR program restrictions. Must indicate citizenship status on individual documents submitted with the application (resume/CV or cover letter itself)– applications not identifying citizenship status on the submitted documents will not be considered. Note that even if you have an active security clearance, you must identify citizenship on your submitted application documents.


• BS in electrical engineering, computer science, or related major required; graduate work is acceptable in lieu of some work experience


• Some experience developing higher power >5 kW solid-state power conversion is a must-have: identifying, selecting, modeling, analyzing, and designing various AC and DC power conversion topologies, and key components thereof, or in controlling these topologies and components.


• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

Desired Skillset:

• Wide bandgap semiconductor devices


• Medium voltage power distribution and solid-state-transformers (SST)


• Selection or design of magnetics for power electronics converters, particularly for higher voltage switching applications


• High speed communications development with high performance FPGAs


• Experience programming various microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs


• Hands‑on experience with PLECS RT Box, Typhoon HIL, OPAL-RT, or other Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms


• Experience with Altium (preferred), Cadence, KiCAD, or other PCB design software


• Experience working with 3-phase power systems

Immediate Requirements/Projects include:

• High Power SiC and Silicon power device design into converters/inverters


• MIL standards compliance (e.g., 461, 1399, 704)


• Multiple parallel/series connected bi-directional AC-DC and DC-DC converters


• 13.8 kV and 4160V grid interface power converters


• Galvanically-isolated DC-DC converters


• Design of modular power converters ranging from 10kW to 500kW converters scalable to multiple MWs


• Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) and Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) development of WBG-based converter applications.

RCT Systems PSD supports hybrid (remote/in-office) and flexible work schedules; however candidates must reside within (or be willing to relocate to) commuting distance of our Baltimore, MD facility.
