Job summary

Puget Sound Energy in Redmond, WA is seeking a Power Dispatcher Interchange Trainee to join our Electric System Control teams. You will perform interchange scheduling and balancing in 24/7 real-time operations, with emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and accurate accounting.

The role requires PER-002 certification or ability to obtain within one year, strong communication, and a willingness to learn control center systems.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or up to two years of college or technical school, or equivalent.
• PER-002 certification per NERC Standards or ability to obtain within one year.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with Company personnel, Service Providers, Contractors, and the public.
• Ability to work within a small group while creating a positive environment.
• Willingness to learn advanced computer skills and complex control center systems.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and available for emergency callouts.

Responsibilities

• Perform interchange scheduling and balancing area accounting during 24/7 operations.

• Create/process interchange requests (E-Tags).
• Monitor transmission capacity and curtailments on PSEI paths.
• Adjust transmission line limits (TTC).
• Verify transactions for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate after-the-fact corrections with adjacent BAs and WECC.
• Research scheduling discrepancies with other balancing areas.
• Develop and maintain auditable documentation and procedures.
• Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to peers and trainees.
• Participate in staff and Load Office meetings.

Job Description

Perform interchange scheduling and balancing area accounting functions during 24/7 real-time operations.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform all Non-Reliability & Reliability Related Tasks assigned to the PD I - Interchange position.
• Perform PD I duties as described within applicable PSE and Load Office procedures and practices.
• Must be knowledgeable in and comply with all Company standards, policies, practices and procedures, FERC, NERC, WECC, and NAESB standards, as well as State and Federal safety regulations as they pertain to the job. Evaluate and process transmission capacity requests.
• Create and/or process requests for interchange (E-Tags).
• Monitor available transmission capacity and curtailments on all PSEI commercial paths.
• Adjust transmission line limits (TTC).
• Verify transactions for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.
• Coordinate after-the-fact corrections and accounting updates with adjacent BA’s and WECC.
• Research and resolves scheduling discrepancies with other balancing areas and entities.
• Help to develop and maintain consistent and auditable documentation, processes, and procedures.
• Assists in reviewing, documenting, and applying lessons learned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Provides on-the-job training and mentorship to peers and trainees.
• Participate in staff and Load Office meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

• Applicant should possess an associate degree or up to two (2) years of college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Applicant must possess PER-002 certification per NERC Standards or possess the ability to attain one within one (1) year.
• Applicant must have the ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written form any issues, needs and questions with Company personnel, Service Providers, Contractors, and the public.
• Ability to work within a small group while creating and sustaining a positive and proactive environment.
• Must have the ability and willingness to learn advanced computer skills and complex control center systems.
• Requires the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and available for emergency callouts.

Desired Qualifications

• One (1) or more years prior related experience with working knowledge of electrical theory, power systems and/or the utility industry.

• The duties and responsibilities are performed in an office environment.
• The position involves sitting, standing, walking, light to moderate lifting, light carrying, bending, reaching, keyboarding, and radio and telephone operation.

• The environmental conditions include ambient inside temperature, lighting, noise levels and occasional outdoor work.
• Conditions may also include vehicle and/or air transport.

The pay range for this position is$64.23-$64.23, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
