Job summary

Job description

Summary

The Staff Engineer, Electrical Design - Power develops new electrical systems/circuits for various applications. You will research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems, and capture them in schematics and system specifications. Other responsibilities will be testing, simulation, validating and qualifying the systems and making adjustments as needed. You will need to provide support throughout the manufacturing of the electrical systems that have been designed. The role will work in cross‑functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high‑quality product development. You will enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.

Responsibilities
  • Work with guidance and support from Sr. Staff and Principal‑level engineers.
  • Design, develop and implement technical solutions for complex projects. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Propose innovative solutions for performance, reliability, and features of system or product.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to a global team of engineers.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and act as primary customer contact.
  • Analyze trade‑offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develop and lead deployment strategies and plans.
  • Lead and manage schematic design, bills of material, power tree, drawings, board layout, and cross‑functional design reviews.
  • Lead power bring‑up, debugging, and support for manufacturing assembly and deployment.
  • Lead relationships with key vendors and partners.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations, and share within team.
  • Serve as liaison with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
  • Analyze and create reports and documentation of specifications, design, testing, debugging, and related activities.
Qualifications
  • May be a recognized expert (go‑to person) in one or more technical areas.
  • Experienced in power design of single/multi‑phase DC/DC converters, point‑of‑load converters, LDOs, MOSFETs, magnetics, hot‑swap circuitry with how‑swap controller, load switches, current‑sense circuits and amplifiers.
  • Experienced in designing power systems for networking, compute, or storage products.
  • Experienced in high‑current, low‑voltage power subsystems for CPU, GPU, ASIC, SoC, and FPGA.
  • Experienced in PCB stack‑up, power planes, and tools used to simulate voltage gradients.
  • Familiar with schematic capture and CAD layout tools or equivalent.
  • Proficient with circuit simulation tools such as SIMPLIS, PSPICE, and LTSPICE, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of high‑density power modules and Vertical Power Delivery (integrated voltage regulator knowledge is a plus).
  • Experienced with power integrity tools such as PowerDC or equivalent and board‑level evaluation.
  • Experienced with design and troubleshooting of power management interfaces such as PMBus, AVS, SVID, and SVI2/3.
  • Experienced with defining specifications and validation of power connectors, cable assemblies and fuses.
  • Familiar with NPI hardware design and deployment cycle.
  • Experience with development of test automation for power validation is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to present to various audiences effectively.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
  • 9+ years of related experience; experience in similar job roles.
Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

$128,000 - 170,000 USD/year
