Forge Atomics in California seeks a Manager, Power Conversion Engineering to lead end-to-end delivery of the power conversion system for Ember Mini and the full-scale Ember nuclear plant, overseeing a cross-discipline team of mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers. The role owns scope, schedule, budget, and risk, drives architecture trades, and ensures manufacturability for high-rate deployment.

Relocation to South Bay LA area required; salary range $170,000–$220,000 with stock options

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, or building mechanical hardware.
• 3+ years of direct leadership experience leading engineers.
• Experience owning system delivery at the program level, including budget, schedule, and vendor management.
• Creative problem solver who can bring multiple disciplines together, with the ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere.
• Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end ownership of power conversion system delivery for Ember Mini.
• Deliver same ownership at full scale for Ember nuclear plant, designed for high-rate production.
• Own the program: scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and risk.
• Drive conceptual design, architecture trades, and first-order sizing.
• Develop design requirements where definition is lacking.
• Perform first-principles analysis and detailed system models to optimize design.
• Optimize development speed, cost, and system complexity.
• Design and execute development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
• Work with vendors to procure key systems such as the steam turbine.
• Partner with production and site teams to ensure manufacturability and delivery at high rate.
• Recruit, develop, train, and retain world-class leaders and engineers.
