What You Need To Know About The Job

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer plays a pivotal role in delivering data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions and enhance operational efficiency across all lines of business. This position supports key initiatives in areas such as Hospital Sales, Blood Collections, and Consumer Fundraising.

Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, the BI Developer designs and refines interactive dashboards and reports, translating complex data into meaningful visualizations. The role also involves conducting in-depth analyses to uncover trends and opportunities that support both strategic planning and marketing efforts.

Ideal candidates will bring substantial experience in Power BI model development, writing queries, building semantic models, data modeling, etc. Successful candidates will also demonstrate the ability to work cross-functionally with staff, volunteers, and IT professionals to implement impactful analytics solutions.

The work location for this position is 100% virtual/work from home. While the position can be worked from anywhere in the United States, the preferred work hours are on an East Coast schedule. Standard work hours are: 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and subject matter experts to create new and enhance existing business intelligence assets, principally through Power BI.
  • Contributes clarity of business needs and evaluates feasibility of technical solutions by delivering functioning BI prototypes and enterprise-grade Power BI semantic models, dashboards and reports.
  • Analyzes and sources data from business applications, enterprise data warehouse (Amazon Redshift) and alternate business intelligence platforms (e.g., SAP Business Objects Webi).
  • Develops and delivers end user dashboards with effective visualizations that quickly convey actionable information tailored to stakeholder needs.
  • Conducts deeper analyses to identify areas for improving decision support and operational effectiveness and evaluates data to deliver research findings & recommendations for increasing revenue, reducing costs and enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains existing BI assets as business needs and/or technical infrastructure evolve, often in coordination with IT staff who support data integration and enterprise data warehouse assets.
  • Devises as a key data resource for insights & visualizations related to hospital sales and product management, fulfilling ad hoc information requests.
  • Assists with data integration efforts related to the modernization and automation of run-and-maintain reporting, with the goal of increasing self-service utilization, decreasing data latency / time to market, and maximizing data-driven insights.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Provides analytic support to program managers and vendors as requested to identify opportunities to improve available source system data for reporting & analyses.
  • Collaborates with marketing colleagues and product managers to research & identify market trends and conduct competitive analysis.
  • Collaborates with IT staff on the enhancement of analytics platforms and data assets, including design, development and testing activities.
  • Support Power BI solutions, including advocacy & end user adoption as well as conversion of legacy reports to current BI standards.
  • Collaborate with data science colleagues, leveraging knowledge of performance measures to help evaluate opportunities to incorporate machine learning into analytics and data visualization products.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • External contacts include vendors and hospital customer personnel.

What You Need To Succeed (Required/Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience / certification) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Marketing, Finance, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of five years of analytics experience, including at least three years of semantic model development.
  • Familiarity with the marketing process: project management, market segmentation, targeting, and pricing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational database and statistical analysis, dimensional modelling and data warehouse concepts.
  • Strong background with analytic & visualization tools, including Microsoft Power BI or equivalent, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong database and analytic skills, with an emphasis on PostgreSQL, DAX and M/ Power Query.
  • Strong background in development of semantic models built against an enterprise data warehouse.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and dashboard design concepts & best practices.
  • Aptitude for & familiarity with basic statistical analysis (frequency distribution, variance analysis).
  • Knowledge of relational data warehouse environments & SQL is required (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A high degree of organization and coordination.
  • Ability to work under pressure and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of enterprise data warehouses, particularly Amazon Redshift.
  • Knowledge of SAP Business Objects (Webi) desirable but not required.
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages (Python, R) is desirable.
  • Exposure to process improvement, user experience, or customer journey methods is a plus.
Physical & Travel

Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs and willingness to work outside standard hours are necessary. A minimal amount (0-10%) of business travel may be required.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Information: The annual salary range for this position is $82K - $90K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Salaries are aligned to the work location. Specific salary information is reviewed at the time of phone screening based on location and experience.
