Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City seeks a part-time Patient Care Technician for the Postpartum & Newborn Unit to assist the nursing team in inpatient and outpatient care settings.

Responsibilities include vital signs, phlebotomy, aseptic procedures, patient transfers, and daily patient needs. The role requires strong communication, confidentiality, and teamwork in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members and health care staff.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Ability to provide care with regard to patient condition and age.
• Knowledge of sanitation principles and health hazards.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs.
• Carry out medical asepsis during skills.
• Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Assist with patient admission, transfers and discharges.
• Provide for patient hygiene and comfort.
• Turn, position and ambulate patients.
• Transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Feed patients and record intake.
• Assist with bedpans and urinals.
• Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent information.
• Provide social interaction for patient comfort.
• Maintain equipment and supplies cleanliness and neatness.
• Stock and supply patient rooms.
