Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Postpartum & Newborn Unit to assist the nursing team in inpatient and outpatient care. Responsibilities include vital signs, asepsis, basic procedures, patient transport, and daily comfort measures.

Schedule: Day shifts, 7am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday; weekends/holidays as assigned. Merit pay; full benefits and retirement contributions offered.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and health care staff.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Ability to provide care with regard to patient condition and age.
• Knowledge of sanitation and health hazards.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Knowledge of keyboarding and data entry skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Carry out medical asepsis including phlebotomy, IV removal, and Foley catheter care.
• Perform simple diagnostic/therapeutic tasks such as enemas and dressing changes.
• Assist with patient admission, transfers and discharges.
• Provide for patient personal hygiene, comfort and feeding.
• Transport patients and supplies; rotate weekends/holidays as scheduled.
• Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units.
