Join Our Flash Team as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator

As our Database Administrator (DBA), you’ll be responsible for the health, performance, and scalability of our production SQL database systems. You’ll own high availability configurations, disaster recovery planning, and performance optimization while improving the infrastructure and software that relies on it. You’ll troubleshoot across a diverse set of technologies with a focus on PostgreSQL, and you’ll make it a priority to eliminate issues before they become emergencies—always striving to automate and harden our systems for scale.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze performance of database systems, identify issues, and recommend and/or implement improvements.
  • Investigate performance alerts and collaborate with engineering teams on fixes.
  • Review proposed database schema changes (DDL) and data hotfixes.
  • Analyze the database impact of new features or initiatives.
  • Plan and execute maintenance tasks such as version upgrades or disaster recovery (DR) tests.
  • Ship optimizations and celebrate performance gains.
  • Attend the morning stand-up with DevOps, Engineering, and QA.
  • Use Slack and other tools to collaborate with teammates across the organization.
What You Bring

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level knowledge in a PostgreSQL database system
  • Secondary knowledge of related data technologies (Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka, DynamoDB, object storage).
  • Experience maintaining production SQL systems, including DDL changes, hotfixes, and version upgrades.
  • Hands-on expertise in High Availability (HA) configurations, Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) planning, implementation, and testing.
  • Ability to create and track KPIs for database health and performance.
  • Experience maintaining pipelines of database snapshots for lower environments, balancing production-like data with privacy/security needs.
  • Ability to assist in benchmarking and performance testing in lower environments to proactively identify regressions and simulate scale-up scenarios.
  • Collaborative experience with Data Engineers to maintain the health and speed of ETL pipelines.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer in production environments.
  • Proven track record of maintaining high-performance, scalable SQL database systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize performance both at the database level and through collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical applications where uptime and performance are paramount.
  • Applicable Computer Science degree preferred but not required

$50,000 - $150,000 a year

Final salary will be determined based on candidate's skills and experience level.
