Job summary

Forbes Technical Consulting is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to support enterprise PostgreSQL environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The role covers administration, performance optimization, high availability, disaster recovery, security, migrations, automation, and ongoing support of mission-critical applications.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with development, infrastructure, cloud, and security teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on PostgreSQL database administration experience or a bachelor's degree with relevant professional experience.
• Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL administration across enterprise on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience with database migrations, particularly Oracle to PostgreSQL; SQL Server to PostgreSQL; On-premises to Azure.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
• Experience with backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies.
• Strong understanding of database security and infrastructure best practices.
• Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing database infrastructure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, clone, maintain, and support PostgreSQL environments across on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance across production, staging, and development environments.
• Manage database objects including schemas, tables, indexes, partitions, views, functions, and stored procedures.
• Perform routine database maintenance and proactively identify potential performance or availability issues.
• Analyze slow-running queries, execution plans, and workloads to identify bottlenecks.
• Design and maintain indexing strategies and optimize PostgreSQL configuration parameters.
• Troubleshoot performance issues related to CPU, memory, storage, networking, and workloads.
• Develop, test, document, and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Execute database refreshes, restores, and recovery activities as needed.
• Implement and maintain database security standards, controls, and best practices.
• Support migrations including Oracle to PostgreSQL, SQL Server to PostgreSQL, and on-premises to Azure.
• Implement cloud-native monitoring and automation solutions and optimize cloud environments for performance and cost.
• Coordinate with development and security teams for reliable operation and support.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL database administration experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field with relevant professional experience.
