Jobbeschreibung

Prevent A Litter (PAL) Veterinary Hospital is a non-profit, fully licensed facility and the very first low-cost spay/neuter vet hospital in Virginia. Since opening in April 1999, PAL has performed well over 100,000 surgeries, preventing millions of births of unwanted animals. Our mission is to eliminate the killing of healthy, otherwise adoptable companion animals simply because they are surplus and cannot be placed in loving homes. We accomplish this goal by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay/neuter services to the public without regard to income or geography. We are a small, tight-knit, and dedicated staff.

After a wonderful, dedicated tenure since our opening, our beloved surgeon is retiring at the end of the year, opening a rare opportunity for a skilled, compassionate DVM Veterinary Surgeon to join our highly experienced medical team. Because our administrative and support staff handle 100% of scheduling, client communication, and check-ins, you will be completely free from the traditional burnout of client-facing veterinary medicine. This role allows you to step into a highly efficient, rewarding environment where you can focus entirely on high-quality, high-volume surgical care alongside a fully trained medical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Surgical Performance: Perform high-volume, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries on canine, feline, and feral patients.
  • Specialized Procedures: Perform occasional elective soft-tissue surgeries.
  • Medical Oversight: Oversee surgical anesthesia protocols, vaccine administration at the time of surgery, and post-operative recovery.
  • Patient Care: Maintain a high standard of veterinary care and surgical sterility, adhering to humane organization standards.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Education & Licensure: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited university and a valid, current license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Virginia.
  • Surgical Proficiency: Strong surgical skills with efficiency in high-volume settings (or a strong desire to be trained/efficient in high-volume techniques).
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work harmoniously with a small, fast-paced, and dedicated medical support team.
  • Mission-Driven: A genuine passion for animal welfare, shelter medicine, and ending companion animal overpopulation.
What We Offer
  • Ultimate Schedule Flexibility: Choose your balance. We offer schedules ranging from 27 to 40 hours per week (or 3 to 5 surgery days per week) to fit your lifestyle.
  • Generous Time Off: Up to 3 weeks of unpaid vacation per year to rest and recharge.
  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive health coverage.
  • No Client Burnout: No regular illness appointments, no wellness consulting, and no demanding scheduling duties.
  • Supportive Environment: Work alongside a fully trained, highly experienced veterinary support team that handles client interactions and surgical prep.
Benefits:
  • Employee discount
  • Flexible schedule
  • Health insurance
License/Certification:
  • license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of VA (Required)
  • DEA license (Required)
