Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) in Ann Arbor seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to study RNA-binding proteins and microproteins using cell biology and NMR approaches. You will design and execute experiments, mentor undergraduates, and work closely with the Bardwell lab in a fast-paced environment.

The role focuses on how proteins interact with RNA to influence structure and disease, guiding translational insights.

Qualifications

• PhD in Molecular Biosciences, Genetics, Chemistry, Biophysics, or closely related field.
• Hands-on expertise in biochemistry, and/or biophysical or cell biological research.
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as cloning and PCR.
• Experience with non-canonical RNA structures (e.g., G4-quadruplexes), chromatin organization, or neurodegenerative models.
• Strong scientific independence and ability to lead projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent research projects focused on chromatin and RNA structure.
• Apply molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning and genotyping.
• Perform in vivo high-resolution microscopy to visualize protein and RNA localization.
• Apply structural approaches including NMR spectroscopy.
• Supervise undergrad trainees and foster collaborative lab culture.
• Document and present findings at meetings and in publications.
