Job summary

Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to study aging biology using zebrafish as a model and to mine genomes of long- and short-lived marine species. You will lead comparative genomics projects, develop new analyses, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in molecular biology, bioinformatics, or related field with phylogenetics focus, strong computational skills, and experience in omics data analysis.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular/cell biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, with particular emphasis on phylogenetics.
• Experience with DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/qPCR, cloning and CRISPR gene editing.
• Experience generating and analyzing omics data for non-model species.
• Strong computational skills with bioinformatics and statistics software.
• Proficient with Linux, CLI, shell scripts; Python and R for analysis.
• Strong publication record in high-quality research.
• Experience with aquatic models is desirable.
• Experience with methylation clocks is desirable.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Leadership, integrity and flexibility; commitment to GMGI’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead research projects in comparative genomics of short- and long-lived species.
• Generate resources via sequencing, assembly, and annotation of diverse genomes.
• Apply phylogenetic tools and develop novel methods for lifespan evolution insights.
• Curate datasets for meta-analyses on lifespan evolution.
• Translate evolutionary signals into genetic interventions in zebrafish.
• Develop assays to measure aging and healthspan in zebrafish.
• Maintain transgenic zebrafish lines and perform microinjection and genotyping.
• Analyze data using bioinformatics and statistics tools.
• Lead publication efforts and present at conferences.
• Support grant proposals and outreach; mentor staff and interns.
