Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University in University Park is seeking a term postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The successful candidate will pursue world-leading 2D materials research, including synthesis, characterization, layer transfer and processing, and will present results at technical conferences.

Responsibilities include preparing manuscripts, assisting with sponsor reports, and engaging in outreach to the broader community.

Qualifications

  • PhD by time of hire in a relevant field.
  • Experience with 2D materials synthesis, characterization, and processing.
  • Experience with layer transfer and chalcogenide thin films is a plus.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Job description

This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

POSITION SPECIFICS

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral scholar. The final candidate will be expected to:

  • perform world-leading 2D materials research on synthesis, characterization, layer transfer and processing
  • to present results at technical conferences and prepare manuscripts for submission
  • assist with preparation of reports for research sponsors, and scientific outreach to the broader community

Rich opportunities will be available for innovative equipment and process development, advanced materials characterization and deep collaborations with theoretical/computational efforts focused on materials growth.

REQUIREMENTS
  • a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Nanomaterials, Nanotechnology, or a related field by the time of hire
  • experience in characterization and processing of 2D materials
  • experience with layer transfer and characterization of chalcogenide thin films is a plus
  • excellent organization, time management, and communication skills
  • ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment
