Job summary

Texas State University’s Institute for Molecular Life Sciences seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to perform independent research on an NIH R24 grant, under PI supervision, focusing on genome architecture and disease resilience in aquatic species.

The successful candidate will conduct comparative and population genomics, single-cell and spatial expression profiling in stickleback and Xiphophorus, standardize data formats, contribute to manuscript preparation, and pursue external funding opportunities.

Qualifications

• PhD in Zoology with experience in genetics and genomics of aquatic species.
• At least one first author publication in leading scientific journals (Nature, Nat. Comm, Science, Science Advances).
• Proficient in Linux, Bash, R and Python.
• Hands-on experience with High-Performance Computing.
• Experience in genome assembly, comparative genomics, population genomics and phylogenomics.
• Experience in RNA-seq analysis, epigenetics and multi-omics integration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research under NIH R24 grant.
• Study genome architecture and sex chromosome evolution.
• Investigate molecular mechanisms of natural resilience to diseases using evolutionary mutant models.
• Perform comparative genomics, forward and reverse genetics, single cell and spatial gene expression profiling.
• Standardize data formats for data management and data sharing.
• Lead manuscript development and publication.
• Seek external funding through various granting opportunities.
