Postdoctoral Scholar, Environmental Health Science and Geospatial Science, Gong Lab

Position Overview

The Gong Lab in the Department of Biobehavioral Health at Penn State is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in Environmental Health Sciences and Geospatial Data Science. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Xi Gong on projects related to environmental exposure modeling, environment–health relationships, and spatiotemporal big data analytics.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement models to assess and predict environmental pollution exposure across spatiotemporal scales.
  2. Analyze effects of environmental exposure and social determinants on health using spatial and non-spatial statistics.
  3. Utilize multi-source spatiotemporal big data with machine learning, AI, network analysis, and visualization tools.
  4. Collect environmental and health data, manage IRB applications.
  5. Publish findings, present at conferences, and prepare project reports.
  6. Contribute to proposals and mentor junior researchers.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Geography, GIScience, Environmental Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field.
  • High-quality publication record.
  • Strong quantitative and programming skills, experience in GIS modeling and spatial analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Motivated, diligent, team-oriented.
  • Preferred: experience in high-performance computing, big data analytics, AI.
