Job summary

• Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform experiments using cell culture and mouse models to study metabolism and chromatin; including transfections, stable cell lines, protein isolation, western blotting, mouse genotyping and treatments.
• Conduct molecular biology experiments: nucleic acid purification, plasmid construction, PCR, RT-qPCR.
• Design experiments and maintain organized, detailed records of results and workflows.
• Present data at lab meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and meetings; contribute to manuscript preparation and grant proposals.
• Collaborate with lab colleagues and help maintain lab operations, buffers, equipment, and supplies.

Job description

Case Western Reserve University, Department of Biochemistry is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a postdoctoral scholar position. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewing for an additional year. The Gates laboratory has a postdoctoral position available to study the regulation of chromatin and gene expression through metabolism. Research in the lab includes projects studying mechanisms of metabolite signaling to chromatin in intestinal cell fate, the gut-brain axis, and colorectal cancer. This research includes using mouse models, both 2D and 3D cell culture models, and molecular biology assays to answer key questions about chromatin biology with a focus on the mammalian intestine. We are looking for curious and dedicated researchers to join our highly collaborative and supportive team. The candidate should be highly motivated with a strong background in molecular and cell biology.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Perform experiments using both cell culture and mouse models to answer research questions about metabolism and chromatin. These include transfections, making stable cell lines, protein isolation, western blotting, mouse genotyping and treatments.
2. Perform molecular biology experiments including nucleic acid purification, plasmid construction, PCR, RT-qPCR.
3. Design experiments to accomplish research objectives, along with keeping organized and detailed scientific records.
4. Participate in scientific communication through presenting data at lab meetings, journal clubs, departmental seminars, and scientific meetings. Contribute to manuscript preparation and grant proposals through preparing figures and writing.
5. Collaborate with others in the lab and contribute to overall lab operations including making buffers, maintaining equipment, cleanup of lab areas, monitoring usage and deliver of lab supplies.

In compliance with the City of Cleveland’s Pay Transparency Ordinance (effectiveOctober 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $63,480 - $71,748. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
