Job summary

West Virginia University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Natural Resource Analysis Center. The role focuses on land-use change, sustainable agriculture, and regional development using GIS and quantitative methods.

The successful candidate will collaborate with NRAC faculty and external partners, publish results, and contribute to proposal development while mentoring students at WVU in Morgantown, WV.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Land Management, Natural Resource Management, Geography, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, Regional Planning, Sustainability Science, or closely related field is required.
• Demonstrated research in land-use/land-cover change, land management, agricultural sustainability, resource economics, or related areas.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• Experience with GIS and spatial analysis software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, R, Python).
• Record of peer-reviewed publications.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interdisciplinary research on land-use change, agricultural sustainability, and regional development.
• Apply GIS, spatial analysis, and statistical methods to evaluate landscape drivers.
• Develop externally funded research proposals to federal agencies and foundations.
• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
• Develop and manage large spatial, environmental, and socioeconomic datasets.
