Job summary

University of South Carolina in Columbia invites applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow (Staff) in the College of Pharmacy, within the COP Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences department. This 37.5-hour position provides hands-on research in bioactive compound synthesis under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will design and synthesize bioactive compounds, develop methodologies, characterize products, and train graduate/undergraduate students.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related discipline by the time of the appointment.
  • Expertise in design and execution of organic reactions, analysis and interpretation of spectroscopic data (HPLC, NMR, Mass Spec).
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated research accomplishments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize potential bioactive compounds.
  • Develop synthetic methodology for the synthesis of compounds of interest.
  • Characterize compounds synthesized.
  • Conduct lab experiments, collect and analyze data, and report experimental data.
  • Teach graduate and/or undergraduate students lab techniques.
  • Ensure all tasks are accomplished on time and to the highest standard.
  • Engage in shared lab duties including maintenance of instruments and apparatus, lab safety and lab cleaning.
  • Prepare weekly progress reports and attend in weekly group meetings.
