Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support DoW Accelerate- DAQ Quantum & Battlefield Information Dominance (Q-BID ) research within the Quantum Computing Cluster ( QCC ). Research will span quantum-relevant materials and nanoscale devices; advanced/quantum sensing; secure electronic and sensing readout; hybrid quantum-classical approaches; and fault-aware hardware for edge applications. The associate will develop and evaluate materials, devices, models, test structures, or sensing prototypes using nanofabrication, electrical and materials characterization, simulation, AI/ML, and data analytics as appropriate. The associate will collaborate across Accelerate- DAQ research clusters; publish in peer-reviewed venues; contribute to technical reports, intellectual property, and federal proposals; mentor Ph.D. and undergraduate Research Champions; and participate in workshops and research-capacity development. Expected outputs include publications, validated proof-of-concept demonstrations, competitive proposals, reproducible research datasets, and trained student researchers.
North Carolina A&T State University is a public land-grant research university. The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering ( JSNN ) brings together interdisciplinary education, research, and shared infrastructure for nanoscale materials, fabrication, characterization, and device development. Within JSNN , Nanoengineering supports research on quantum-relevant materials, electronic and sensing devices, semiconductor/nanofabrication technologies, and integrated nanosystems. The position contributes to the university-wide DoW Accelerate- DAQ initiative and its Quantum Computing Cluster ( QCC ), linking quantum materials and sensing to secure electronic/readout systems, AI-enabled analysis, and defense-relevant applications. The research associate will collaborate with JSNN faculty, students, shared research facilities, and complementary Accelerate- DAQ research teams.
Earned Ph.D. in Nanoengineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, Quantum Information Science, Applied Science, or a closely related discipline. U.S. citizenship at the time of appointment is required under the stated Accelerate- DAQ program eligibility requirements. Demonstrated research expertise in at least one of: quantum materials/devices; semiconductor or nanoscale fabrication and characterization; advanced/quantum sensing; hybrid quantum-classical systems; RF/electromagnetic sensing or electronics; embedded/edge computing; hardware reliability; or AI/ML for materials, devices, sensing, or quantum systems. Evidence of scholarly publications, independent research ability, interdisciplinary collaboration, and effective oral/written communication.
All degrees must be awarded by accredited institutions.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Preferred experience includes 2D or wide-bandgap materials; superconducting or other quantum-relevant materials/devices; nanofabrication and device integration; electrical, low-noise, or cryogenic characterization; spectroscopy and microscopy; sensing or secure readout electronics; embedded/ FPGA systems; simulation, digital twins, and AI-guided materials/device optimization. Experience integrating hardware and data analytics, preparing federal proposals (DoW, DOE , NSF or similar), publishing peer-reviewed research, and mentoring student researchers is desirable.
