Position Highlights: A postdoctoral position is immediately available in Dr. Otto’s Cancer Immunology and Cell Therapy Laboratory in the Department of Child Health, Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and BMT. Our laboratory focuses on the development of targeted therapies and hematopoietic stem cell graft design for Pediatric cancer treatment strategies. Currently, we have an opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher with strong interest in stem cell graft engineering, adaptive immunotherapy, immune organoid design, and nanocarrier development for cancer treatment.

As a translational research lab, we are interested in evaluating the synergy and potency of combination therapies and identifying the molecular mechanisms underlying their effect. The ideal candidate is a creative, productive, and self-motivated individual with the ability to think critically, learn quickly, and function both independently and within a team. Must be able to work in a BSL-2 environment, work with laboratory rodents, and biohazardous and chemical compounds.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform independent research experiments under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Design and utilize research methodologies aimed at achieving the goals of the project.
  • Assist or lead in writing of grants and manuscripts.
  • Regular data report (preparation, analysis, presentation).
  • Present data at national and international meetings.
  • Participate in meetings with collaborators.
  • Assist in mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in the lab and on campus.
  • Partake in lab management and general maintenance duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of common immunology, cell and molecular biology techniques (i.e. cell culturing, PCR, flow cytometry, rodent work, and immunohistochemistry).
  • Knowledge in nanotechnology with a focus on drug delivery, as well as computational chemistry and bioinformatics for molecular docking studies.
  • Must be willing and cleared to work with rodent models and in a BSL-2 work environment.
  • Excellent scientific, organizational, record-keeping, problem-solving, and presentation skills, and impeccable work ethics.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/PhD) in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, or closely related field in the biological sciences and relevant research background is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Outstanding scientific track record during PhD training reflected by first-authored primary research papers in internationally recognized journals.
