Job summary

The University of Arizona's Yamoah Lab invites applications for a Part Time Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Translational Neurosciences (Phoenix). You will work on neural circuit mechanisms of behavior, including chronic pain, using immunohistochemistry, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and related techniques in mouse models.

Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience or related field, strong hands-on experience in electrophysiology and imaging, and excellent communication

Qualifications

• PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, or related biomedical field required.
• Experience in electrophysiology, imaging, immunohistochemistry, neuroanatomy, or molecular biology is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform immunohistochemistry staining and patch-clamp recordings in mouse brain tissue.
• Conduct multidisciplinary neuroscience research under the PI supervision.
• Design and conduct complex research projects and develop protocols.
• Formulate research methods, collect data, and perform analysis with independent judgment.
• Foster collaborations within the department and across the university.
• Present results at lab meetings and conferences; prepare manuscripts for publication.
• Assist with grant writing and progress reporting.
• Develop and implement experimental protocols based on results.
• Supervise laboratory staff and contribute to daily lab operations.

Position Highlights

The Yamoah Lab in the Department of Translational Neurosciences seeks a motivated researcher to join our team studying the neural circuit mechanisms of behavior, such as chronic pain and the biological basis of neuromodulatory therapies for chronic pain. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, or broadly related to biomedical research with research emphasis, or a related field. Required qualifications include research experience in at least one of the following areas: electrophysiology, imaging, immunohistochemistry, neuroanatomy, or molecular biology. Preferred skills include patch-clamp recordings, experience with neuromodulation or pain research, and proficiency with imaging or data-analysis software. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct immunohistochemistry staining to assess brain pathological changes in mouse models; whole cell patch clamp electrophysiology recording in mouse brain slices; Molecular and cellular assays relevant to neuroinflammation and neural plasticity.
• Conduct advanced, multi-disciplinary research in neuroscience under the direction of the principal investigator, Dr. Yamoah.
• Develop, design, and conduct complex research projects.
• Formulate research methods, develop research criteria, and perform scientific data collection and analysis using independent judgment.
• Foster collaborations within the Department and with other units across the University.
• Present results at laboratory meetings and conferences.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports.
• Develop and implement protocols as dictated by experimental results.
• Assist with supervision of laboratory staff.
• Contribute to daily lab operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD/Pre MD in Neuroscience, Medicine, Psychology, or related field of study required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Track record of publications in peer reviewed journals.
• Interest in the neural mechanisms underlying behavior, such as chronic pain.
• Experience in imaging or electrophysiology.
