Job summary

University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) seeks a postdoctoral fellow to advance satellite data assimilation and coupled analysis and forecasting within the MMM Laboratory. The fellow will conduct cycling analyses and forecast experiments using the MPAS-GOCART2G-JEDI system with diverse observations and collaborate on data assimilation developments.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree within the last 5 years or expected within the next 6 months in atmospheric science, computer science, statistics, or a related area.
• Designs and implements research plans for satellite data assimilation algorithms.
• Develops and implements approaches to data collection, experiment execution, data analysis, and interpretation, with team input.
• Communicates with the team to share results and co-develop methods, tools, and products.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in satellite data assimilation and coupled analysis and forecasting.
• Design cycling analyses and forecast experiments using the MPAS-GOCART2G-JEDI system to evaluate remote sensing observations.
• Develop or improve data collection, processing, postprocessing, visualization, and end-to-end cycling workflows.
• Explore AI/ML data processing or data assimilation methods through targeted case studies.
• Analyze and interpret results; diagnose performance; suggest improvements based on quant verification and science.
• Communicate research findings and support project activities.
• Prepare results for presentation at conferences and publication in journals.
• Assist with preparation of scientific proposals and project progress reports.
