Assistant Professor, Weill Cornell Medicine | Protein Mobility & Biomolecular Condensates in Disease | Physician-Scientist

Shape the future of protein mobility and condensate biology in disease.

The Platt Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine is hiring a postdoctoral fellow to investigate how metabolic, environmental, and genetic stressors alter protein mobility and condensate function in gastrointestinal disease. We use advanced live-cell imaging to uncover novel disease mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities. Our lab is committed to strong mentorship, scientific rigor, and building a collaborative environment where creative, driven scientists can thrive.

We invite applications from candidates excited to lead projects focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms linking protein mobility and biomolecular condensates to gastrointestinal pathophysiology.

Success in this role will involve uncovering mechanistic insights, contributing to a rigorous and innovative research environment, and helping shape the scientific direction of a growing lab.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute independent experiments using advanced imaging and molecular biology techniques
  • Analyze protein mobility using quantitative imaging and computational tools
  • Contribute to manuscript and grant writing
  • Present research findings at internal seminars and external conferences
  • Collaborate across disciplines to explore emerging models of disease pathogenesis

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree in molecular biology, biophysics, systems biology, or a related field
  • Strong background in imaging, microscopy, and cell biology
  • Experience with image analysis software (e.g., ImageJ/FIJI, MATLAB, Python)
  • Interest or experience in biomolecular condensates, protein mobility, and/or redox biology
  • Demonstrated ability to publish high-quality scientific work
  • Creative, collaborative, and motivated to uncover fundamental disease mechanisms

Application Instructions

To apply, please send the following to Dr. Jesse Platt at jep4025@med.cornell.edu:

  • A one-page cover letter describing your research background and interests
  • CV with a list of publications
  • Contact information for 3 references

The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.

Salary range: $61,008 – $74,088, based on experience and in accordance with WCM’s minimum stipend policy.
