Johns Hopkins University is seeking a PREP Research Associate under the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) program. This role involves developing a thermometer utilizing atomic fluorescence techniques, conducting experiments, and analyzing data.
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in Physics or a related field and have experience in laser frequency stabilization, Python programming, and temperature metrology. U.S. citizenship is preferred for applicants.
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Postdoctoral Researcher
Researcher will develop a thermometer based on atomic fluorescence intensity ratios. This research project will explore several novel and high-risk techniques for realizing a primary temperature sensor in a compact package. This will require operating multiple lasers to atomic transitions, fiber optic design and operation, multilevel rate equation simulations, and careful characterization of systematic effects.
