Job summary

Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct coupled physical-biogeochemical modeling of HABs in subtropical estuaries. The appointment supports NOAA ECOHAB and HBOI research, located at Fort Pierce, FL, for two years with potential extension.

You will work with a team at HBOI and University of Georgia to simulate phytoplankton dynamics, predict future water quality, and contribute to publications and proposals.

Qualifications

• PhD from an accredited institution in Marine Science, Oceanography, or closely related fields.
• Strong mathematical skills and programming experience.
• Significant experience in numerical modeling and familiarity with ROMS, POM, or FVCOM.
• Fundamental knowledge of coastal phytoplankton blooms and biogeochemical cycles.

Responsibilities

• Develops and improves a coupled physical-biogeochemical model for Indian River Lagoon.
• Performs numerical simulations, analyzes model results and data.
• Prepares research presentations, manuscripts, and proposals.
• Coordinates between modeling, field and lab teams.
• Participates in field and lab work.
